Looking down on someone because of their looks

We are more of a politically correct society in which some of us are above mocking and others arent' like fat people it seems. My question is, why does it seem to cool and acceptable for some to mock fat people in general? I am overweight and I am no prude or politically correct. But it seems that some hate overweight people or have some sort of prejudice against overweight people and it makes no sense to me. It seems okay to judge overweight people in some people's mind. I was teased for not being thin enough and it is hurtful. I think it is sad that people do this to make themselves feel better.

Women don't like to be called fat. To some, it is the worst thing to be called. It is no wonder that there are some women who go to extra lengths to lose weight and try to go the extra mile to ft that standard. It is even more acceptable to make fun of very skinny people, people who are dark-skinned (especially true in the black community--I'm black by the way.), people who just don't fit a certain beauty standard. Ironically almost no one fits that standard and even the "beautiful" people have to work hard to maintain that standard which is not the most realistic standard. Is it just that some individuals have gotten nastier over time? Whatever happened to health, fitness, well-being, and self-respect, oh, and character and morals in our culture?
