Does it matter what we listen to?

The answer to that question is yes. Just like a Christian should not watch certain shows and films, it does matter what we listen to. Music is a universal language.

Proverbs 4:23 says "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life". Music can influence the way we dress and how we view things, especially young people. While music itself does not cause bad behavior it can have an impact on one's behavior and mood.

Some people express anger and rage through their music. Others express love, joy, and praise through their music. Christians should listen to music that uplift and glorify our Heavenly Father. We should listen to music that expresses love, joy, peace, and other fruits of the Spirit; music that is life-affirming. The most important thing to remember is that musical is a powerful to win souls to Christ or to glorify oneself.

Whether its James Cleveland or Yolanda Adams, the most important thing is the message behind the music. Also, what is also of great importance is if the professing Christian artist lives according to the Bible or according to the world. That important message is that Jesus died on the cross and rose on the third day so that all may have eternal life. He is our Savior and Lord and that one day He will return. He will judge us one day and we all have to give an account of our deeds, including "minor" details of what we have allowed in our hearts.
